painting popcorn ceilings

We have justed moved into a new home in sieea Vista, all 3 bedrms, finning rm and living rm have pop corn ceilins. We have attempted to use 3/4 in roller to paint the ceilings. we are having problems with the popcorn sticking to the roller. We have read about using a sprayer, how ever being we are short people and all sprayers need to be @ 45 degrees. Is there a better way to paint the ceiling? How would one add glitter to the paint?
